Rumors have been circulating since last month that 'The Greatest Showman' star Zendaya is going to play Ariel in Disney's upcoming live-action remake of 'The Little Mermaid.'
The actress, who got her start on the Disney Channel, told People she'd be thrilled to be Ariel: 'I loved 'The Little Mermaid.' It is honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. I was obsessed with it when I was a little kid.'
However, that's far from a confirmation. She added, 'It's just a rumor, so we will see.'
The reports of Zendaya possibly playing everyone's favorite mermaid was, sadly, met with racist comments, as was her being cast as MJ in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming.'
Other names floated as a potential Ariel include Ariana Grande and 'Riverdale' star Madelaine Petsch, who already has the requisite long red hair.
